Dubliners Posted: 29 Sep 2013 06:15 AM PDT Dubliners by James Joyce A short story collection and an object lesson in oblique simplicity and economy, essential study for all would-be writers. The book makes for rather painful reading as it roams through the author’s native city. Many of Joyce’s Irishmen are bigoted, violent, short-sighted and disappointed but he offers no apology for them. ‘this race and this country and this life produced me,’ he said, and he spent his whole life writing about them. He took care to live elsewhere, however.
