Monica shifted the car into park and turned to look at the glum-faced Jared. He looked like a boy who had just been told that Santa Claus wasn’t real. ‘Cheer up. It won’t be so bad. You may even have fun.’
‘Fun?’
‘That’s right. Learning can be fun. Remember college? Besides, even if it is boring, and heaven forbid Mr. Jared Price ever be bored, at least it’s only two days. I’ll meet you here at the station Sunday night.’
‘There’s really no way of talking you out of making me do this, is there?’ he tried again for the fifth time that morning.
‘Nope. I’m going to sit here, watch you get on the train, and watch it leave the station. If you want, I’ll even get out and wave a pink handkerchief as you pull away. It will be so romantic,’ she said with a toothy smile dripping with sarcasm.
‘You don’t trust me! You think I’d get off the train before it left?’
